k and r and you
K&R was the first programming book I bought. I used it to learn how to program in C, my first real programming language (dabbling in various BASIC dialects doesn’t count). This served me well when I went on to complete a BSc in Computer Science and find employment as a programmer. Although I mostly use Python now, I still enjoy programming in C and come back to it for tasks that newer languages can’t handle.

I started my programming journey with C at the age of 7.
This very book (here in Polish edition) taught me a lot about pragmatic, elegant coding and design. I still remember banging my head against the wall trying to understand pointers…
Thank you for C and UNIX, you will be missed.

I taught myself C in the late 80s because I didn’t want to write thecode to control my homemade ISA A/D board in assembler.

I have never been a programmer or read this book, but when I was working in a library in Paris some years ago, for some strange reason I saved from destruction what I think is a first edition from 1978 of “The C Programming Language”

My first and second edition copies of K&R :)
Thank you Dennis (and Brian) for opening up a whole new world to me. A world of endless possibilities.
